Evaluation of the Accelerator Effect of Coral and Platelet Rich Fibrin on Bone Healing

The rabbits were divided randomly into two groups. There were two bone defects (3.5 mm diameter) created bilaterally on the proximal part of the tibia of rabbits. In control group, the defects were left empty. The other defects (twelve defects in each group) were filled with coral, PRF and coral plus PRF. Postoperatively, on the 30th and 60th days, clinical, radiographic and histologic examinations were performed. On the radiological examinations, bone healing was better seen in the grafted groups than in the control group (P<0.01). During the histological examinations on the 30th day, differences between groups were not important. On the 60th day, bone healing was found to be better in the coral, PRF and coral plus PRF groups than in the control group (P<0.01). However, the best bone healing was observed in the PRF group (P<0.01). In conclusion, applications of coral, PRF and coral plus PRF (especially PRF) are significantly effective for bone healing.
